Onion Sports Weekly Mountain Bike Ride
Every Wednesday – All Summer
Carpool leaves the shop at 6:15 pm
Ride will be announced on Facebook by Tuesday evening each week.

Join us for a fun, relaxed evening of mountain biking each week. We’ll rotate the ride through many of central Vermont’s best riding spots, including Perry Hill, Northfield, Waitsfield, Millstone, and East Montpelier.

Please note that these are laid back rides, we do cover significant amounts of technical terrain. You should be an experienced mountain biker and be prepared to ride for 2 or more hours over “More Difficult” to “Very Difficult” singletrack trails (with occasional, and usually avoidable, sections of “Extremely Difficult” trail).

If you have questions please consult our “How We Rate Our Rides” page, or call the shop at 802-229-9409

Cliffhanger #1 Photos

Local photographer K.G O’Donnell was on hand to capture all the action at the first Cliffhanger race of 2013 and was kind enough to pass on a few images for us to share with you. Many thanks and enjoy.

Onion River Sports is excited to announce the return of the Vermont State Time Trial Championships on Sunday, June 9th! It’s been quite a few years since this event has been held in Vermont, and we’re excited to bring it back with a few twists.

Course: We’ll stage the start in Roxbury, and riders will tackle a 40k out and back course on Route 12A towards Randolph. Juniors will turn around earlier and will race a 20k course. See below for a map and elevation profile.

Registration: Preregister for $25 on Bikereg.com. Day of registration is $30.

Prizes: Medals and Custom State Champion Jerseys to category winners.

Venue: We’re excited to announce that we’ll be partnering with the Windridge Tennis Camp! They’re graciously allowing us to use their space. They’ll also be selling delicious, local, organic food after the race. Race hard, and then grab something good to eat and enjoy some live music prior to the awards ceremony.

The Bike Swap is May 4!

April 25, 2013

The Bike Swap, Saturday, May 4 from 9am until noon

Bring in your bike beginning Monday, April 29 thru Friday, May 3

Dig your old bikes out of the garage, basement, shed, or yard, get them all cleaned up, and bring them to Onion River Sports for our Annual Bike Swap! We begin accepting bikes Monday, April 29 when we open at 9am and close the doors to Swapped bikes at 8pm on Friday, May 3.  In the mean time, there are a lot of things you can do to get your bike ready:  brush off the cobwebs or dirt, put some air in the tires, shine up that bicycle, lube the chain. A clean, shiny bicycle is more likely to sell for the price you want!

We also accept used trailers, tag-a-longs, unicycles and jogging strollers, so there are plenty of opportunities to swap your quality used gear for a check or store credit.

If your bike sells you get either:

80% of the selling price as a check

100% of the selling price in store credit
110% of the selling price in store credit towards the purchase of a new bike within one week of the Swap (until May 12th)!
Please, try not to call the store between 9am and 12pm to see if your bike has sold – our staff is busy selling your bike! This is a very busy morning at ORS and most likely, our staff will be unable to check on the sale of your specific bicycle. If you would like to know, you are welcome to come to the Swap to see if your bike has sold or wait until after 12pm to call us. Thanks for understanding!

If you’re buying a bike (or bikes):

Swap starts at 9:00 am (the line usually starts forming at 8:00am or earlier) and you’ll get great deals on used bikes!  We’ll also have bicycle Odds and Ends at terrific deals! Show up early, the good ones go first - the Swap ends at 12:00 pm!

We will have hundreds of used bikes–and most of our staff–in the Onion River Sports’ parking lot to help you find the perfect new-to-you bike for you and your family.

If your bike does NOT sell at the Bike Swap, you are responsible for picking it up at Onion River Sports on Sunday, May 5 between 11am and 4pm. If you do not pick up your bike, we’ll donate it for you to a great local organization that helps get kids on bikes.

ORS Weekly Cross Ride
Every Monday through May
Leaves from the shop at 6:00 pm

This is an Intermediate Ride

Join us an informal after-work dirt road ride every Monday. We’ll leave from the shop at 6:oo pm and ride for 15-30 miles. The routes will be fun, but generally very challenging, and will typically include 2,000-3,000 feet of climbing. While bail options will likely be available, plan on this being a ride geared towards intermediate to advanced cyclists who are ready to get a good ride in.

If you’re looking for something a little bit mellower, check out our Tuesday Night Ride with Linda Freeman.

These rides are not an official event, there’s no need to register. Just show up at ORS ready to ride by 6:00 pm.

Cyclocross bikes highly recommended.

Call the shop at 802-229-9409 with any questions.
