The Ride Options:
Please note: There will be a mass start for all rides at 8:30 am from the Rec Fields. However, if you know you will need more than 9 hours to complete your ride, we encourage you to plan accordingly and leave a bit earlier. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
35 Mile Dirt Road Ride Ride
There are some exciting changes coming to this loop this year, so stay tuned – the main goal being to maximize riding on dirt roads. We highly recommend a cyclocross, hybrid, or mountain bike for this ride. We DO NOT recommend using a road bike. You’ll be treated some some of the best dirt roads around though, with picturesque views, farms galore, and generally quiet roads.

Day of the ride, please do not park in the pool lot, it must remain open for those using the public pool. Parking will be available in the next lot over near the Mountaineers Field. Public restrooms will be available in the Poolhouse, and we’ll have food, coffee, water, and energy drink available before the ride.
Post-Ride BBQ Info: The BBQ starts as soon as the first riders come in, often around 11-ish in the morning, and runs all day until about 5pm, when we usually start to close up shop. Due to the increasing size of the event, the BBQ will end at 5;30 this year, please see cut off times below. If you’re not on pace to make it back to the Rec Field in time we’ll give you ride. We understand that everyone wants to ride the whole way, but for the safety of riders and out of respect for our many generous volunteers we’ll be enforcing the cut off times this year. Please be in touch if you have any questions.
Our BBQ, and our food stops, accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets (as long as you like veggie burgers and Tempeh), and we even have gluten-free options (thanks to some astute Library employees and volunteers!). The selections vary each year as much of our BBQ fare is made by volunteers or donated by local restaurants, check out the list of generous local businesses who support us with food each year! If you anticipate your ride taking longer than 9 hours, consider leaving earlier than the 8:30am start time. Email Matt at events (at) onionriver.com if you’d like to have your number and cue sheets mailed to you ahead of time.
Cut Off Times: We understand that no one wants to hop in the truck and get a ride home, but due to the increasing size of the Century we will be implementing, and enforcing, cut off times for this years event. We’re doing this to ensure the safety of all riders and out of respect for our extremely generous volunteers.
You’ll still have 9 hrs to complete your ride, and if you need more time than that we’re happy to get materials to you ahead of time so you can leave before the official 8:30 am start time.
Official Cut off Times:
North Wolcot Rec Fields – 2:00 pm
Lake Elmore – 3:30 pm
Finish at Montpelier Rec Fields – 5:30 om
