We’ll begin with an overview of the bike and general maintenance and then dive into diagnosing problems and learning quick fixes for whatever you may encounter on the road or trail. Time permitting, we’ll touch on flat tire fixes, shifting, brakes, suspension, and more. New to the encore edition, this clinic is extended an extra hour!

5th Annual Montpelier Mile
Saturday, July 3, 2010, 6 pm

Kick off to Montpelier's Independence Day Parade with this 1-mile race through historic downtown Montpelier. Run in front of thousands of spectators, then enjoy the parade and fireworks on the Statehouse lawn.

Pre-registration (before June 30): Adults - $15, Children - $5, Parents accompanying children $10. Day of race registration: Adults - $20, Parents accompanying children - $10, Children (12 and under) - $5.

Everyone can participate in this low-key, short ride along Montpelier's bike path and side streets to Kismet on Barre St. Kids who can ride at least 5 miles welcome!

This relatively flat ride with a small section of dirt roads will head out Route 2 East for about 5 miles to Muddy Brook Rd, Farwell St, and Pine Hill Rd, then briefly onto Route 14 to coast into Barre. We'll eat at the Farm Fresh Cafe at the Local Agricultural Community Exchange (LACE) on Main St.

This ride will pursue a hillier, dirt-road route up Terrace St. and over McCullough Hill Rd and Center Rd in Middlesex to the Red Hen Bakery on Route 2.

Challenge yourself to ride farther with this bike up Route 2 West to Richmond and On the Rise Bakery! Please be sure you are ready to ride this far.

We'll begin Suspension 101 with an overview of different types of suspension and terminology, including hardtails and full-suspension. Then we'll cover assessing the features on your fork and/or rear shock, and learning how to use and adjust them. We'll finish up with maintenance on your front or rear shocks, so that you get the most out of your ride through proper suspension setup.

This ride will be flat-to-rolling along Route 2 West into Waterbury and then take Stowe St. to Route 100 North and the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. We'll fill up on cider and donuts, and if it's hot, maybe even stop at the Ben & Jerry's factory for an ice cream cone!

You've learned the basics of shifting and drive trains in 101, now we'll talk drive train fine tuning and replacement. We'll cover replacing shift cables and housing and how to straighten a bent derailleur hanger. We'll also explain compatibility issues between brands and vintages of component groups, and touch on hub, headest, and bearing adjustment (time permitting). This clinic will help you get your bike back in ride-able condition or keep your bike riding smoother for longer.

Join us for an introduction to the brakes on your bike. We'll cover the basic differences between and maintenance of V-brake and hydraulic and cable-actuated disc brakes. Then, we'll go over V-brake and disc brake pad installation adn set up, to keep you out on the roads and trails trouble-free this summer!

This ride will take a mostly flat, dirt-road route along River Road to Red Hen Bakery on Route 2 in Middlesex.

Have you ever found yourself caught on the road without the usual riding buddy who fixes your flats for you? Then this is the clinic for you! We'll give you an overview of fixing a front or rear flat tire, help you know what gear you'll need to take with you on your ride, and give you the skills to fix that flat yourself. We'll also help you self-diagnose other basic bike maladies by showing you what to look and listen for.
